‘Seishun Buta Yarou wa Dear Friend no Yume wo Minai’ Movie Sequel Announced for 2026

The 13th and final episode of Seishun Buta Yarou wa Santa Claus no Yume wo Minai (Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus) ended with an anime movie sequel announcement on Saturday.

The sequel adapting the 14th and 15th volume of Hajime Kamoshida‘s Seishun Buta Yarou Series (Rascal Does Not Dream) light novel will open in theaters in Japan under the title Seishun Buta Yarou wa Dear Friend no Yume wo Minai (Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend) in 2026.

Seishun Buta Yarou wa Santa Claus no Yume wo Minai, adapting the Daigakusei-hen (University Arc) from the tenth light novel volume onward, premiered on July 5. Crunchyroll simulcasted the anime with subtitles and dubs in multiple languages.

Produced by CloverWorks, the original Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai (Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai) television anime aired in 13 episodes in Fall 2018. Aniplex of America licensed the anime and streamed it on Crunchyroll, Funimation, Hulu, and Netflix.

The Seishun Buta Yarou wa Yumemiru Shoujo no Yume wo Minai (Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl) sequel anime movie opened in Japan in June 2019, adapting the sixth and seventh light novel volumes.

The Seishun Buta Yarou wa Odekake Sister no Yume wo Minai (Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out) movie opened in Japan on June 2023, followed by Seishun Buta Yarou wa Randoseru Girl no Yume wo Minai (Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid) in December that year. The sequel movie project adapted the eighth and ninth novel volumes, respectively.

Kamoshida launched the romantic comedy light novel under the Dengeki Bunko imprint in April 2014, featuring illustrations by Keiji Mizoguchi (Sakura-sou no Pet na Kanojo). Kadokawa published the 15th and final volume in October 2024.

Yen Press licensed the light novel in English in July 2019 and released the 14th volume on June 10. The 15th volume is planned for a January 6, 2026 release.
