Video Game ‘Death Stranding’ Gets Anime Movie

Kojima Productions announced an anime movie of Hideo Kojima‘s Death Stranding video game, titled Death Stranding Mosquito, at the studio’s 10th anniversary livestream event “Beyond the Strand” on Tuesday. It also revealed the staff, a teaser visual (pictured), and a teaser promotional video.

The film is being co-produced with Hollywood and will serve as the first project of ABC Animation Studio.

Published and developed by Kojima Productions, with publishing by Sony Interactive Entertainment for PlayStation consoles and 505 Games for other platforms, Death Stranding released on PlayStation 4 in November 2019, followed by Windows in July 2020, PlayStation 5 in September 2021, iOS, iPadOS, and macOS in January 2024, and Amazon Luna and Xbox Series X/S in November 2024. Death Stranding sold a cumulative 5 million copies worldwide by July 2021 and reached over 20 million players worldwide by April 2025.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, a sequel, was released for PlayStation 5 on June 26.

Death Stranding won Best Game Direction, Best Score/Music, and Best Performance (Mads Mikkelsen) at The Game Awards 2019.

Synopsis
In the future, a mysterious event known as the Death Stranding has opened a doorway between the living and the dead, leading to grotesque creatures from the afterlife roaming the fallen world marred by a desolate society.

As Sam Bridges, your mission is to deliver hope to humanity by connecting the last survivors of a decimated America.
